W.E.B. Du Bois (1868-1963)
Scholar, writer, editor, and civil rights pioneer, in 1896 lived for one year in a room at the College Settlement, while conducting his research on the social condition of Blacks in Philadelphia for his landmark work, The Philadelphia Negro, first published in 1899.
