Sep. 24th 1873/ Dear Edward:/ Your letter of yes-/ terday's date came to hand this/ morning bring cheering evidence/ that you have not suspended under the/ effect of the present financial pain/ but on the Contrary that you are/ keeping the ball moving successfully./ I am glad you succeeded in finding a/ pleasant boarding place, at moderate/ charges./ I perceive that you have/ discovered or have heard that agents have/ been in the field a head of you. Porter &/ Coates declared to me that 12 Cops only/ were all that went through their/ hands. For my own part I am sure/ I have sent none, so I hardly think that/ more than a very few copies/ have been sold in Baltimore. Yet several/ Sap-headed fellows may have made/ some attempt at offering it.
